Deep Tissue Massage:
Deep tissue massage helps manage chronic muscle tension. The focus is on the deepest layers of muscle tissue and surrounding tissues. It is similar to swedish massage as it looks at the entire body as opposed to specific goals/issues. Deep touch is soothing and relaxes the mind.
Swedish Massage:
Swedish massage does not focus on any particular pain of postural issues, but rather works the entire body for circulation and relaxation and general health benefits. Swedish massage is lighter than deep tissue massage or many of the other modalities. One of the primary goals of the Swedish massage technique is to relax the entire body, to improve circulation. remove toxins, encourage immune system activity and improve sleep. Sometimes this is all you need. Working on specific problems can become overwhelming and all we can handle is to relax. This supports healing and change as well. This is accomplished by rubbing the muscles with long gliding strokes in the direction of blood returning to the heart.
