Natural Movement - BII: The Body's Intrinsic Intelligence:
Experiential kinesiology (the study of the human body in motion) session that helps you understand human movement and how to move in accordance with the body's design to prevent injury, positively affect postural problems and myo-fascial pain syndromes. Increase body awareness, coordination and flexibility. Building a solid foundation for Somatic Therapy. Gentle activity, theory. Wear comfortable clothing, no shoes, no jewelry. Location: In a movement studio.
BII is s my personal approach to movement, and the name for my movement classes. I draw inspiration for my classes from various disciplines, such as Feldenkrais, Aikido but mostly from the Axis Syllabus (www.axissyllabus.org).
A session begins with addressing neural conductivity and warming up the musculo skeleptal and fascial web through oscillating motion and gentle all-directional explorations. Receptors in the surface anatomy and in the muscles are stimulated by touch, breath and movement. Fascial adhesions are gently released, focusing on introducing mobility in all joints of the body by moving through moderate range of motion and multi-directional orientation as appropriate to each joint. The client gains increased kinetic awareness, increased control of intrinsic and stabilizing muscles and speed of reaction.
We work on the mechanics of entering and leaving the ground, energy efficiency and using the fascial web for propulsion and feedback, the generation, maintenance and transmission of kinetic energy, as well as individuality and moving in tandem with others.
I use both set exercises as well as improvisation in order to deepen the understanding of movement principles. Tuning our listening and response tools we explore movement that is unique to each individual, organic, spiraling, undulating, multi-directional, and fluid. We also explore working with a partner.
