DYNAMIC BODYWORK
Private Sessions Combining touch and movement |
Long term pain remediation.
Sessions are tailored to the client. Private sessions only.
more info
Dynamic Bodywork It is easy and anybody can do it. Passive soft tissue release is combined with mindful and knowledgeable, bio-mechanically informed movement to address the body's individual nature in order to facilitate movement efficiency and health from within. Touch gives the moving body information about its location and its intricately fascinating potential. Touch can reveal and heal both at the same time. Touch is informative, relaxing, guiding, supportive, protective, and inspirational. Integrating soft tissue changes, while you are gently moving, helps your body, and brain, re-structure movement habits. The knowledge and experience of actively taking control over one's own health is tremendously important. Being actively involved allows for a whole new challenge and helps the body understand the purpose of the soft tissue changes immediately. The insights gained about movement habits and movement options is applicable to every day life situations such as sitting, walking, running, lifting, playing with children, driving, and of course... dancing. Wear soft, loose clothing you can move in freely. Long sleeves and long sweatpants allow for comfortable sliding on the floor. No shoes. Socks are great to keep your feet warm. |

I will help you with ways of listening and with finding resolutions to addressing problems in non-specific but functional ways. My work approaches the whole body and it's collaborative function. This is not physical therapy, so I do not diagnose or prescribe for pathological situations. For those it is best to consult your physician. BII - The Body;s intrinsic intelligence Understanding movement and alignment principles open to all (ages 13 and up, mixed levels from non-dancer to professional mover) Explore movement from the inside out, investigating the interplay of the body’s individual components, with a focus on energy conservation and injury prevention. Every class is a complex web of exercises and improvisations that inspire body awareness and help develop an internal, intellectual and kinesthetic image of the human body in motion.
Logistics: Wear stretchy, loose clothing that keeps you comfortable and that does not restrict movement in any way. Layer up so you can adjust to varying degrees of warmth. Long sleeved shirts and long pants are better for sliding and rolling across the floor. We do not wear shoes, we move barefoot and we protect them and keep them warm with socks. Please bring pen and paper. Basic prerequisite General fitness level. No dance or exercise background is required. The course is open to people from all levels of movement experience, novice to professional. People with movement impairment or dysfunction can be part of this class as well (please contact me at dynbod@gmail.com in advance). More information: BII – THE BODY'S INTRINSIC INTELLIGENCE is a modality that analyzes human movement, both in theory and practice. Every class is a carefully designed web of exercises and improvisations that inspire body awareness and help develop an internal, intellectual, and kinesthetic understanding of the human body in motion. Movement is the essence of life and our bodies are built for it. Understanding and maintaining proper alignment has significant effects on myo-fascial health, and thereby on the healing outcomes of manual therapy in the long term. Movement is the basis for the Dynamic Bodywork modality and therefore this introductory series focuses on that important aspect. Aside from anatomical and physiological understanding, we, as practitioners, need a high level of kinesthetic sensitivity and the ability to demonstrate movement principles to our clients. Some of the basics that we explore in this Fundamentals workshop are:
There are many goals (no stress, it's fun!), but some of the most important and obvious ones are:
BII is not an exercise regimen and it is not corrective exercise and it is not physical therapy; rather it is an approach to sensing and re-evaluating our movement choices and habits for what we feel is useful to our movement goals. We end up refining and re-organizing our body-map, and adding vocabulary to our movement dictionary. BII is investigative and inquisitive; it is not prescriptive or manipulative. And,...as always...the workshop format is that of a lab and remains open to addressing specific interests or needs as they are brought up by individual participants. |

DYNAMIC BODYWORK - CONTINUING EDUCATION WORKSHOPS for LMBT's Are you interested in incorporating movement into your sessions or treatment plans? Want to understand and improve posture, dynamic posture, and body-mechanics? Want to try something different? This is the CE workshop for you. Dynamic Bodywork is a great stand-alone method as well as a very adaptable supplemental approach to your existing manual therapy work and/or movement practice. Movement is the essence of life and our bodies are built for it. We seek to understand the structures and the mechanisms of movement. The Dynamic Bodywork modality is based on the premise that understanding and maintaining proper alignment has significant effects on myo-fascial health, and thereby on the healing outcomes of manual therapy in the long term. In Dynamic Bodywork, movement and touch are experienced simultaneously to benefit each other and intensify the building of neural pathways and reorganizing the body map. We seek to heighten our awareness of the body's function and the complex interplay of the collaborating structures, to maintain or re-instate freedom of movement, fluidity, and ease, to support healthy posture, and to reduce myo-fascial pain at any age. Dynamic Bodywork is a holistic approach to movement and manual therapy, taking into consideration the physical and psychological benefits of creative expression and the individuality of each body. Dynamic Bodywork goes beyond the idea that movement is to be applied in the form of an exercise regimen or that creativity could be separate from everyday life. Dynamic Bodywork is not rooted in corrective exercise, rather, in understanding the principles of anatomical and bio-mechanical function, which allows the mover (client and therapist) to develop a more comprehensive sensitivity and kinesthetic awareness of their body in motion while empowering them to take a leadership role in their own healing process on a daily basis. Currently I offer an introductory series for a total of 18 CEU's: Dynamic Bodywork - introduction/Live/6 CEU's/DB explains the foundation on which the modality is built upon, and gives insight into basic hands-on techniques. Dynamic Bodywork - axial skeleton/Live/ 6 CEU's/DB focuses on the function of the spine (and the benefits of intrinsically initiated movements), walking, sitting and laying down. This workshop gives many hands on opportunities to help integrate movement with manual therapy. Dynamic Bodywork - appendicular skeleton /Live/ 6 CEU's/DB focuses on function of the periphery and its interplay with the axial skeleton. This workshop also gives ample opportunities for hands-on exploration and opens the door to more dynamically complex creative client-practitioner interaction. |

Short Description: 'BII – The Body's Intrinsic Intelligence', as the foundation for the Dynamic Bodywork modality, seeks to investigate and practice a way of moving that is in harmony with the body's natural design and that allows for optimal structural integrity, coordination, cooperation and ease. By refining our own kinesthetic skills we lay the foundation for analyzing movement patterns and challenges in our clients. We explore movement from the inside out, investigating the interplay of the body’s individual components, with a focus on energy conservation, injury prevention, and reducing myo-fascial pain and general stiffness. Goal of this workshop is to refine our understanding of alignment and increase our ability to maintain it. Benefits of BII practice extend to both the practitioner and the client. Basic prerequisite for this series is a general fitness level. No dance or exercise background is required. The course is open to people from all levels of movement experience, novice to professional. People with movement impairment or dysfunction can be integrated (please contact dynbod@gmail.com in advance).
